About this Tour:

Discover the Mayan archaeological site of Tulum, world famous for its unique location alongside the Caribbean coastline. Built on a natural outcrop facing the rising sun, the stunning turquoise-blue ocean backdrop makes this beautiful site one the most picturesque in the world.

We will continue to the beautiful park of Tankah; surrounded by virgin forest, which combines the perfection of nature and the mysticism of the ancient Mayans. Its beauty is unique because it has the most beautiful lagoon on the Mayan Riviera. We will explore the lagoon on 4 zip lines; refresh yourself in the wells (cenotes) with a splash in the crystal-clear water. After lunch, with typical dishes and handmade tortillas, we will enjoy a journey to a Mayan Village, the magic of ancient Mayan tradition, and walk by the unique Mayan community surrounded by unspoiled nature. Meet their traditions, looks at their organic harvest, and admire how they learned to survive with nature.

You will see the beauty of their houses and roads made by sac-be (white path). Find a real Mayan treasure.

What happened to the Mayans in Tulum?

Tulum was one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Maya; it was at its height between the 13th and 15th centuries and managed to survive about 70 years after the Spanish began occupying Mexico. By the end of the 16th century, the site was abandoned. Tulum was abandoned as European diseases and epidemics decimated the population. Archaeologists have evidence that the population was killed off by the Spaniards when they introduced Old World diseases into the area as a way to destroy the native population.

How did Tulum get its name?

The original name of Tulum was Zamá, which in the ancient Mayan language means "dawn”. Tulum was an important walled city that in ancient times was used as a port for an extensive commercial network since the terrestrial and maritime routes of the ancient Mayan people converged here.
