About this Tour:
Discover the ancient Maya civilization and the vibrant wildlife of the Yucatán Peninsula on our exciting tour of the Private Coba Ruins and the Punta Laguna Monkey sanctuary.
Your adventure begins with a guided tour of the Coba Ruins, an ancient Maya city that was once home to thousands of people. Here, you’ll learn about the fascinating history and culture of the Maya. Coba is completely immersed in the Mayan jungle and the temples are all scattered around which makes it a lot of fun to walk or bike to find them out.
Next, we’ll take a short drive to the Punta Laguna monkey sanctuary, where you’ll have the opportunity to see spider monkeys in their natural habitat. Our expert guide will lead you on a tour of the reserve, where you’ll learn about the important work being done to protect these endangered animals.
After exploring the monkey sanctuary, we’ll hop in a canoe and paddle across the beautiful Punta Laguna lagoon. Along the way, we’ll keep an eye out for a variety of bird species that make their home in the area.
Once we reach the other side of the lagoon, we’ll gear up for some exciting rappelling into a hidden cenote. This underground pool is a natural wonder, with crystal-clear water and stunning rock formations.
After our exhilarating descent into the cenote, we’ll make us ready for a thrilling ride on a zip line over the lagoon. Soar through the treetops and enjoy breathtaking views of the jungle as you zip from platform to platform.
To conclude our adventure, we’ll participate in a traditional Maya purification ceremony, led by a local shaman. This sacred ritual is meant to cleanse the body and spirit, and will leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. We’ll then sit down to a delicious lunch of local specialties, before heading back to our starting point.
Join us on this once-in-a-lifetime tour and experience the best of what the Yucatán has to offer!

About Coba
The archaeological site is very large and extensive, and the main attractions are dispersed, our tour included a bicycle or Mayan taxi to see it all. Sadly, at this moment it is not allowed to climb the pyramid, but you can enjoy the most awesome site to explore.
What can I see in Coba? Here are the highlights for the archaeological zone from Coba
- The temple of Nohoch Mul with 42 meters of altitude is the highest temple in the entire Yucatan peninsula.
- The Church. The temple called “The church”, within the Coba group, with 24 meters is the second-highest structure in the city.
- “Las Pinturas” (The paintings) complex.
- The Observatory
- Ball game courts
It is believed that the name “Coba” is the original name of this city, which means “stirred water“, due to its proximity to lagoons.
