In our Contoy Island and Isla Mujeres day trip, we will take you to two of the most beautiful and best-known islands in the Yucatan Peninsula: Contoy & Isla Mujeres. Contoy Island is a National Park and a protected natural reserve since it is a very important shelter and nesting area for maritime birds.
Isla Contoy is a beautiful Caribbean island north of Cancun with spectacular beaches. Because of its natural reserve status, the only building on the island is a small museum dedicated to the beauty of its flora and fauna. For its fantastic biodiversity Contoy Island is a magnificent spotting place for pelicans, storks, sparrows, cormorants, and many other bird species.
On our large, comfortable speedboats, we can get you to our snorkel area in just 40 minutes. Before reaching Contoy, we will make a stop at the reef just south of it for an optional 40-minute snorkeling session at the tip of the largest second coral reef barrier in the world, the "Mesoamerican Reef Barrier".
After snorkeling, Contoy is just 10 minutes away. While we enjoy the breath-taking view, we will disembark on the pier next to one of the beaches where a small tranquil bay is formed, resembling a natural pool with crystal-clear waters!
The guides will lead a 30-minute walk around the island to visit the museum (optional), an internal lagoon where many bird species nest, a set of trails that lead to the other side of the island, and finally the tower, where you can appreciate the magnificent view of the entire island.
After all that, we will probably be starving, so we will go for a nice lunch. We prepare a delicious "Tikin Xic" fish (a traditional recipe from Yucatan), grilled chicken, guacamole, salad, bread, and seasonal fruits.
Water and sodas are available on the boats at all times, and after snorkeling, so is beer. After lunch, we will rest on the beaches of Contoy for 90 minutes, where you will get a chance to get a nice tan, swim in the turquoise waters of the Caribbean, or play with the friendly mantas.
isla mujeres things to do: We will then star the "Isla Mujeres Excursion", a delightful island with tons of history. For one hour, we will walk (and maybe shop) around the small streets in the central part of the island before we take the boat back to the Punta Sam pier in Cancun around 4 PM.

South of Contoy Island is "Ixlaché", which is the name of the beginning of the Mesoamerican Reef Barrier, the sedond largest on the Planet, with almost 1000 km in length along the Caribbean coasts.
The lagoons, mangroves and low-level jungles are home to 152 recorded species of birds. Starting in winter, more than 10.000 birds concentrate on the island, including pelicans, storks, sparrows, cormorants, and many others.
Of the 7 species of Sea Turtles in the World, 3 of them have chosen the white sandy beaches of Contoy to nest and lay their eggs. These species are the Carey Turtle, the White Turtle, and the Caguama Turtle.
Contoy Island is home to 98 identified species of plants, 234 species of birds, 14 species of reptiles on both land and water (one of them endemic to the Island, known as Star Gecko – Aristelliguer georgeensis), 17 species of hard coral, 14 species of soft coral, and 173 species of birds.
Because there’s no fresh water on the island, it cannot support mammals.
The water around Contoy is is very rich in nutrients that serve as food to the plancton that makes up the diet of more than 234 species of fish that have been identified in the area, including the majestic Whale Sharks and Manta Rays that feed off it’s shores.
