About this Tour:
We start with Muyil, board local motorboats, and cruise through natural channels that crisscross this fascinating natural paradise filled with extensive mangrove forests and islands, wetlands, savannahs, and forest ecosystems that are home to hundreds of bird, mammal, and reptile species. Your boat trip ends at the Mayan Xlapak ruin, also the starting point of the canal floating tour. Spend a relaxing half an hour suspended on top of the water as the soft current lazily guides you through the crystal clear fresh waters of these ancient canals.
After that, we will have our lunch in a typical local restaurant.
We finish with the Mayan archaeological site of Tulum, world famous for its unique location alongside the Caribbean coastline. Built on a natural outcrop facing the rising sun, the stunning turquoise-blue ocean backdrop makes this beautiful site one of the most picturesque in the world.

What happened to the Mayans in Tulum?
Tulum was one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Maya; it was at its height between the 13th and 15th centuries and managed to survive about 70 years after the Spanish began occupying Mexico. By the end of the 16th century, the site was abandoned. Tulum was abandoned as European diseases and epidemics decimated the population. Archaeologists have evidence that the population was killed off by the Spaniards when they introduced Old World diseases into the area as a way to destroy the native population.
How did Tulum get its name?
The original name of Tulum was Zamá, which in the ancient Mayan language means "dawn”. Tulum was an important walled city that in ancient times was used as a port for an extensive commercial network since the terrestrial and maritime routes of the ancient Mayan people converged here.

This small size ensures that your group will not encroach on your personal experience. Most of our transportations fits 12 persons but some of our excursions involve boat trips, which may have specific capacity limitations.
May I tip the driver and guide? Is it obligatory?
Although not obligatory, it's standard practice in Mexico, and for many of our visitors is a form of thanks on finishing the excursion, always when the service and attention of these professionals have been as expected or has surpassed your expectations.
But we repeat, this is NOT OBLIGATORY.

We do however not advise that you take your phone in a waterproof case, because it is generally not possible to operate it whilst doing the activities. At all archeological sites non-professional cameras are permitted at no cost. Video cameras GoPro tablets and selfie sticks have a charge which is paid directly at the box office upon entry. The use of professional photography equipment is strictly prohibited - including tripods.

About Muyil
In this private tour you will see picturesque temples stand undisturbed among the trees, where you take an eye-opening walk through a jungle path where finally your reach the pier to board. We enbark the boats and you’ll cruise around the lagoon and into narrow canals that are just barely wider than the boat itself. The water is crystal clear, so you can easily spot fish swimming around. But look up in the air too, as Sian Ka’an is known for over 300 species of birds.
Eventually, you’ll reach a small Mayan ruin that was used for commerce centuries ago. The boat docks here to take a look around.
Yet the highlight is next when you’ll have the opportunity to float down an ancient Mayan canal! The canal is lined with mangroves and the water is very clear. It’s also super refreshing, after that short but sweaty trek through the hot & humid jungle! A lifejacket is provided to float down the canal with. This private tour is the perfect place to enjoy an introduction to Mayan history & ecology.Where is Muyil located?Muyil (also known as Chunyaxché) was one of the earliest and longest inhabited ancient Maya sites on the eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. It is located approximately 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) south of the coastal site of Tulum, in the Municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico.
